Emerging Skepticism

Calling Bullshit

Independent of each other, and in their own ways, Raven and Stephie soon became suspect of the messaging and information being discimnated in the name of compliance and well-being for the social good.

We acknowledge that neither of us landed in the hospital, nor did we have relatives who did. We understand this.

Nor do we mean to discount or belittle anyone’s choices, but to offer a look back so that we can understand what happened, including the recognition that we were unwittingly traumatized into compliance via forced isolation and inflammatory assertions.

Initial mandates and cautions:

  • Big picture: we can no longer trust ourselves, our bodies or life, itself.

    • Don’t touch, don’t breathe, distance yourself from other people.

    • Compliance mandates ‘for the good of all.’

    • Masks will protect you (except they don’t)

  • Stay home, don’t leave, don’t go out.

  • Everything is dangerous! Wipe down everything that arrives in the home.

  • Bleaching floors. But wait, don’t babies crawl on floors?

  • The instant toilet paper shortages that turned into purchase limits, regardless of the size of one’s household.

  • Age fears - older people are more susceptible. Oh, wait, no. Younger people, too.

Deliberate censorship.

Stephie left social media entirely because sources she knew to be reliable were disappearing. People, including some medical professionals, were being suppressed and banned that had a different view, for example on YouTube.

  • Assumption of disease and ill health in specific populations.

  • Statistics generalized to ‘everyone’ regardless. Stephie shared her approach to statistical averages when she was a pediatric oncology nurse.

Being a heart transplant patient gave Stephie an advantage. She had already developed strategies to protect her well-being. The point at which she saw her family deviating from a lifestyle that had protected her for 12 years, she said ‘no-no.’
