Hello! First things first. Stephie and I decided to change the name of the podcast to Medical Mischief: exploring the shifting terrain of health and wellness. Much like the topic of the previous episode, we decided to ‘put the past to rest’ and not continue to reference 2020 as we move away from that year. This is the last episode under the old name, 2020TheBLUR, although we’ve already changed the link and name.
As we continue we anticipate bringing on guests here and there, and offering a surveillance of different approaches to health and wellness, alongside guidance for dealing with the allopathic medical system in the U.S.
In part 1 of Episode 10 of 2020 The BLUR, HIPAA, Hippo, Hypocrisy, Stephanie and Raven discuss the misconceptions about medical privacy protection in the United States under HIPAA, and how things got especially blurry regarding what privacy means - and doesn’t mean - during the height of the pandemic. What many thought was protected turned out not to be.
Additionally, Stephie talked in detail about consent form line items she was asked to sign for a simple mammogram - most of which she declined - and what she encountered as a result. As a longtime practitioner in the health field, and a highly educated and discerning patient, Stephie takes a strong stand for one’s right to privacy, and to refuse questionable authorizations.
As always, if you wish to share your experiences, we welcome comments.
